Either my taste buds are really changing, or the recipes in The McDougall Quick & Easy Cookbook are just ridiculously delicious. I suspect it's a combination of both, because Mark has also been enjoying what he calls "the best meals of my life!"
Believe it or not, I haven't missed eating my favorite Thai dish, peanut sauce curry at my favorite local Thai restaurant, Manola's. But I have missed the flavors of Thai food, so when I came upon this recipe for Thai Tofu and Cashews, I was more than ready to give it a go. I decided to add a few sliced carrots and red bell peppers to the ingredients. As you can see, this made for a beautifully colorful presentation, delectable beyond words.
I encourage anyone who wants to improve their health, lose weight without feeling deprived, or take their diet to the next level to get their hands on a copy of this wonderful book. And to show just how excited I am about it, I'm going to randomly give away a copy to one of my readers.

I found the free cookbook (The McDougall All-You-Can-Eat Cookbook) the most interesting. Great ideas.
ReplyDeleteA free copy of this amazing cookbook you've been making all these mouth-watering recipes from? Count me in! I found the lesson in basic nutrition very interesting. Oh, and a trip to Costa Rica would be nice, too.

Batty, I'd really love for you to have a chance to win. Please tell me something you like about Dr. McDougall's website and also leave your email address, so I can contact you if you win. (It's not in your user stats.) :)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with, and appreciate, the medical perspective most of all. In "High Protein & Other Fad Diets", he talks about how harmful high protein diets are, in "High Blood Pressure", he talks about how artificially lowering blood pressure stresses our circulatory system and "Bowel Problems" talks about the harm of using medications to resolve symptoms that are caused by dietary problems.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could choose one part of the website, but it would have to be the section with the medical information.
Thanks for the post and big thanks out to Dr. McDougall!
awesome contest! I really love following your McDougall transition! My favorite thing are his NEWSLETTERS! Everyone reading this should pop their email in to get his free newsletter.
ReplyDeleteGAIL!!! It is Lizzy :)) I am sooo interested in this cookbook -- the last few months of my pregnancy I need to really focus on my diet...cut out as much starchy, fatty, and sugary foods as I can. Do they have good hearty breakfast recipes in that book? I have subscribed to the McDougall newsletter -- and also read that article about how that woman was condemning the vegan diet due to a 6 month year old dying....omg the things she said were awful and so not true!!! Wow -- it was surprising that people can be so blind to health.
ReplyDeletehi gail :) i actually DO NOT want you to pick me because i already have all of the mcdougall cookbooks but i am sooo happy and excited that you are mcdougalling because we really need all vegans to be in optimum health :)). oh, the features i love best are the free program and the discussion board:))))
ReplyDeleteI have read one of McDougall's books and have wanted a McDougall cookbook ever since, but alas I am pinching pennies so I haven't been able to get one.
ReplyDeleteI really like McDougall's December 2008 newsletter where he talks about fat vegans. It's important to recognize that you can maintain a strict vegan diet but still be eating completely unhealthily.
Hi Lizzy! It's so great to have you visit my blog! I'm not sure why you want to cut out starches, because starches are actually good for you! It's the fats and overly refined starches and sugars that make our vegan diets less than healthy. And yes, there's a chapter in the book with hearty breakfast recipes!
ReplyDeleteHi Erin! Are you sure you wouldn't want to win this book? It would make an awesome gift!
I tweeted about the contest :)

ReplyDeleteI liked the "hot topics" about medical information the most, it's really interesting which effects food has. http://www.drmcdougall.com/medical_hottopics.html
I really like the section on packaged foods it's great to know what better options there are.
ReplyDeleteI RT'd this post
ReplyDeleteThe recipes in the McDougall Newsletters are priceless!

ReplyDeleteInteresting lineup of speakers -- on his "Advanced Study Weekend," all fairly radical-sounding except for, of course, John Mackey, CEO Whole Foods. I'm curious why he's included.
Lovely resource you've choreographed here. Thanks for your efforts (and fun?)!
Enter me, please! I'm currently reading his 12-day program book.
ReplyDeleteI found the links to the various articles on assorted nutrition topics the most interesting. We all know that fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans are good foods but Dr. McDougall addresses and sets the record straight on the biggest nutritional trends/fads that are the rage now such as healthy fats, olive oil as health food, fish oil, etc. This is important information!!!
ReplyDeleteI could use the book because I'm a fan of Dr. McDougall but don't have any of his cookbooks. I need easy low fat recipes that will please everyone, not just people who eat like me.
Hi Valerie! Thank you for your very kind feedback. John Mackey, a long-time vegetarian, became nearly vegan about six years ago. Quite likely, his diet continues to evolve. He also led the fight to make organic foods more available, placed a cap on executive compensation, (including his own), and has promoted forward-thinking projects like humane animal-treatment standards. These philosophies are considered by many to be outside of mainstream thinking, and could, at least in part, be why he's included in the speaker lineup.
ReplyDeleteI think the articles are really eye-opening, and I'd like to win a copy of this book for my girlfriend, who loves to cook!

Ooo, cashews, yumm...Dr McDougall's doing a good service getting people off cooked bottled oils. What type of rice did u use, jasmine? Thanks, Gail.
ReplyDeleteYes, jasmine rice!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great to go on the Costa Rica adventure trip and learn how to enjoy more healthy eating habits at that same time.

Dr. McDougall's site is just jam-packed with great info. And I'm really looking forward to his new book. I would love a copy of this cookbook, as I need to shed a few pounds, and all of the recipes you posted look delicious.

I've heard of the McDougall plan but thought it would cost a lot. So, I was thrilled to find out that the program is offered free on his site. I have to spend more time on that section but, initially, found the section entitled "Diet, Not Genes, Controls Destiny" really interesting ... and encouraging. I'm going to bookmark the site and read more!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this giveaway ... I would love to have the book!

Hi Gail, As Bill and I journey through this time of surgeries and medications (he had an advanced polyup removed from his colon a week ago: this makes 2 different cancers in a five months), Dr. McDougall's claim to better health through nutrition sounds great! Bill was vegetarian the first 5 years of our marriage, but "reverted" a year ago. The NY Times article on beef 2 weeks ago has made him reconsider--so now's the time to try some plaque reducing receipes! He thinks the statin he is on is the cause of his general malaise.
ReplyDeleteHi Sophia! I'm sorry to hear that you and Bill have been dealing with so many serious health challenges. I have every confidence that a high-starch, low-fat, vegan diet will help his body heal and offer you both a path to vibrant health. Please sign up for Dr. McDougall's free newsletter and begin taking advantage of all the great info and recipes on his website. Sending you lots of love and healing energy for Bill.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about Dr. McDougall's site is access to current research. So many blogs and internet sites quote articles that are based on phony or misrepresented research. His site tells the truth because Dr. M. is not swayed by the dairy or meat industries to fudge the truth. Dr. M's site provides the proof I use to help others see the true benefit of a low fat vegan lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteReading these kind of posts reminds me of just how technology truly is an integral part of our lives in this day and age, and I am fairly certain that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of uploading our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I daydream about all the time.
