I admit I’m not a big coffee drinker, and I’ve never been fond of Silk Soymilk. But I have been a fan of Silk Soy Creamer for quite some time, using it in recipes and enjoying it in my herbal coffee drinks. And as everyone knows, I am cuckoo for coconuts and all of the incredible coconut milk products Turtle Mountain has introduced thus far. So when I heard that they were coming out with a new coconut milk creamer, I got as excited as any diehard dairy-free coffee drinker.
Like Silk, So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer is available in three varieties: Original, Hazelnut, and French Vanilla. I decided to taste test each of them straight from the carton to get an idea of how they compared to the flavor of Silk. Quite honestly, I was surprised to discover that all three of the coconut milk creamers tasted even better. I didn’t think there was much room for improvement here, but leave it to the clever folks at Turtle Mountain to take these creamers to a whole new level of delicious. I even had to stop myself from drinking a full glass of the French Vanilla straight from the carton.
Now, for the real taste test: How would these coconut milk creamers taste with my Vanilla Nut Teeccino? I brewed three cups, and tried each of the flavors.
The Original was wonderful, giving the beverage a rich, creamy boost, without adding even a hint of sweetness. It’s perfect for people who prefer their cup of coffee without any sugar. The Hazelnut flavor gave my herbal brew a fragrantly nutty richness, and the French Vanilla coconut milk creamer propelled my herbal coffee beverage into another galaxy.
The next test: How will these creamers work in a recipe? I decided to try the Original flavor in a recipe for Kheer, an Indian rice pudding. The result was superb. It certainly would have made a sensational ending to my Basu’s Homestyle Indian Cuisine dinner, but I hardly had any room left for dessert that night, anyway. However, the meal did leave me with a yearning for a nice Indian sweet treat, and this yummy rice pudding is just the ticket!
Creamy Coconut Kheer
This heavenly dessert beckons the palate with aromatic cardamom seeds and rosewater. The coconut milk beverage and creamer add a subtle taste and very nice creaminess to the tender rice and intensely fragrant spices.
Ingredients:
½ cup Basmati rice
1¼ cups water
1 cup So Delicious Coconut Milk Beverage, Original flavor
½ cup So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer
¾ cup evaporated cane juice crystals
¼ tsp cardamom seeds + 1/8 tsp cardamom powder
1 tsp rosewater
¼ cup finely chopped pistachios
Directions:
Combine rice and water in a medium, thick-bottomed saucepan. Cook on low heat until the rice is done, about 25 minutes. Add coconut milk, creamer, and evaporated cane crystals. Mix thoroughly and cook on medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add cardamom seeds and powder and continue cooking, until the mixture becomes thickened, about 10 more minutes. Remove from heat and add in rosewater. Serve warm or chilled in dessert glasses and garnish with chopped pistachios. Makes 4-6 servings.
My conclusion: Get your hands on some So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer as soon as you see it on the shelf at your local natural foods store. Take it home, and wallow in all of its creamy deliciousness.

ReplyDeleteI love all the So Delicious coconut milk products - yogurt, ice cream, milk beverages and kefir. I wasn't too excited when I heard they were releasing coffee creamer because I don't drink coffee and I just use coconut milk beverage in my hot tea, but I never thought about cooking with it. ReplyDeleteI'd like to try out some of Wheeler's ice cream recipes (which generally use soy creamer and soy milk) with coconut creamer and coconut milk...

Recently I decided I would start cooking instead of buying frozen ready-made foods, etc. I have had more successes than failures, but I still have a long way to go. ;-) I would love to mix these in recipes or just put some in coffee for those late nights when I'm making a creative mess in the kitchen. :-P
ReplyDeletei cannot wait to find this stuff!!! not only would i use it for coffee and tea -- but also cakes....oh what about frosting? oh...i bet it might add some great flavor to some thai or indian dishes!!! YUMMMMM!!!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try So Delicious products. I've learned to forego creamers in my coffee, making do with just a sweetener or sugar.
ReplyDeleteI really miss the creams and milk. The only Silk product I really like for my coffee is a spice flavor I found at Christmas a while back. So it'd be nice to have something to flavor & cream my coffee!

ReplyDeleteAnxious to try the Hazlenut & French Vanilla...this will be a nice alternative to soy milk or soy creamer.

I'll probably try this, but I have to admit I go through so much of the So Delicious coconut milk beverage and use that pretty exclusively in my [decaf] coffee, I don't think I'll be getting it as a regular thing. (famous last words)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteThe real question is how does it taste when mixed into a white russian?

ReplyDeleteIf I could marry Turtle Mountain, I would. Truly amazing products and company.
ReplyDeleteI just had to tell you that I just tried the French vanilla creamer with chai today, and it's fantastic! Plus, I only had to use a very little for it to make my chai nice and creamy. Thanks for making me aware of such a wonderful alternative to dairy and soy creamers!
ReplyDeleteThere's another non-dairy creamer on the market???? Where? Where? I've always used Silk original creamer and it's hard to find. I'm so looking for this next time! Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeletei was so excited about his then disappointed to find that it contained titanium dioxide...i know the jury is still out on that, but why use it in a vegan product? bummer.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the estrogen effects on the body I was advised by my physician to avoid soy products. I was very disappointed because it seemed that sooooo many vegan/vegetarian recipes and products use large amounts of soy products. I am also lactose intolerant. I thought I would have to give up yogurt, creamers and ice cream type of desserts. These products have been the answer. They taste great!
ReplyDeleteHere is Turtle Mountain's response concerning titanium dioxide:
ReplyDeleteTitanium Dioxide is a naturally occurring mineral in the Earth’s crust. It’s crystalline geometry enables it to reflect light many times over making it the whitest substance known. This makes it ideal for imparting whiteness to products.
Titanium Dioxide is an insoluble and inert mineral. Both the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), a committee comprised from members of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have concluded that there is no absorption or tissue storage of titanium dioxide and it is not absorbed via the gastrointestinal tract, thus these two bodies as well as Europe’s Scientific Committee on Food (SCF) each have concluded that there are no safety concerns associated with the use of titanium dioxide as a food additive at levels ranging up to 3%. Turtle Mountain products stay within US regulations that limit its use to no more than 1%.
I am new to the world's of Soy Creamer & Coconut Milk Creamer. I have now traded in my Half & Half Dairy Creamer for this wonderful Coconut Creamer. I was skeptical that it would taste like Coconut, which I love, but not in flavored coffee. And, I am now in love. I tried the Original in my fav cup of FLCR Jamiacan Me Crazy & I LOVED IT! Yesterday I picked up 4 on sale @ Whole Foods. 2 original, and 1 French Vanilla & 1 Hazelnut!
ReplyDeleteI am "flirting" with new things, and replacing old bad habits. (White Sugar for Agave)-I have been on a health kick, over the last few years, incorportaing new ideas with others. Thanks to "Skinny Bitch", "Fat Smash" and my new fav "The Kind Diet" I am not only allowing my body to become more healthy, but I am reading alot about HOW these Other Bad things are made, and why they may make me feel bad. Not only that, but I want to be Kind to the planet, the animals and myself. Thanks to Alica's book, and these products I am on a new FUN adventure.
Back to the Coconut Creamers:
I just wish they came in a size Larger than the current Pint. But, I love it! I am a New convert!!!
Good dispatch and this enter helped me alot in my college assignement. Gratefulness you for your information.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great substitute for a creamer, baking, and cooking etc... A wonderful addition to a healthier lifestyle!
ReplyDeletejust found this blog, fun fun fun!! Found the creamers last week... got into coconut last year when I was looking for healthy alternatives to dairy.. Im not a coffee drinker at all.. I bought them to play around with instead of cream.. Im working with a trainer and was told to stop eating ice cream 160 calories for 1/3cup of ice cream is crazy... so I decided to make popsicles, but I missed the creaminess of ice cream SOOO I mixed fruit and the dreaminess of Coconut Creamer!!! OMG!!! better then anything on the market! and easy! take your fave fruit 1 Cup and 4 oz of Coconut milk 4 oz Coconut cream and bam amzing cream pops!! and less then 50 calories each!!! Im in heaven!!! Hope some one tries and enjoys this fun lil concoction!!
ReplyDeleteTotally different perspective here! My husband is addicted to the gross liquid hazelnut sugar free hazelnut creamer. I decided, on a whim, to sneak this into his coffee. I bought it today, subbed it for his regular creamer tonight, and he did not notice! Major victory, as the fake sugar and hydrogenated oils are gross and unhealthy. Not one to deceive the hubs normally, I will tell him tomorrow :)
