Perfectly Simple Salsa Fresca

I love assembling the fresh, wholesome ingredients for salsa and guacamole.

Do you remember the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George are at Monks Coffee Shop trying to come up with ideas for a new TV show to pitch to NBC? Somehow, the subject of salsa comes up.

It's impossible for me not to think of this clip whenever I'm making or eating salsa. And so it was, when I prepared JJ's Favorite Yam and Black Bean Burritos from the book The Gluten-Free Vegan by Susan O'Brien along with my fresh guacamole and salsa.

In an earlier post, I shared my recipe for the simple-to-prepare and delicious guacamole pictured above. Here I share a quick and easy recipe for the refreshing salsa fresca pictured alongside.

Ingredients:

3 large tomatoes, chopped
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely minced
1 Serrano or jalapeƱo pepper, finely chopped
3 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
Juice of 1 lime
1/8 teaspoon oregano, finely crushed
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Directions:

Combine all of the ingredients in a serving bowl. Serve immediately or refrigerate and serve within 4 or 5 hours. Makes 4 cups.

  1. Hahaha! I love that Seinfeld clip! Everything on that table looks so delicious. I'll have to get my hands on a copy of that book, too. I'm vegan and gluten intolerant, and I didn't know about the book. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I don't know why I ever bought pre-made salsa or guacamole. They're so easy to make and certainly would taste far better fresh than anything you can buy in a jar or a refrigerated package. Thank you for inspiring me to do what I should have done long ago!

  4. Wow, I just want to reach into the photo & grab a burrito, bite in &
spoon some guac & salsa on every next bite!! LOL! Where do I click to be able to do that?? ;-) ;-) Man, I just had breakfast but this makes me ready for lunch! Yum!!!

  5. This post reminds me that there are so many things that are easy to make at home and likely taste far more delicious when they are homemade, too. It wasn't laziness on my part, but ignorance about how easy something like guacamole or salsa is to make. Thank you!
