Chocolate Milk from Heaven
Coconut, chocolate ... does it get any better? I'm never buying bottled chocolate syrup or pre-packaged chocolate soy milk again. I mixed some home-made chocolate syrup with original flavor So Delicious Coconut Milk Beverage, and came up with the best-tasting chocolate milk I've ever had! I can't wait to drink this along with an "untuna" salad sandwich!
Dairy-Free Chocolate Syrup
Makes 2 cups
Ingredients
* 1/2 cup cocoa powder
* 1 cup water
* 2 cups evaporated cane crystals
* 1/8 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
1. Mix cocoa and water in saucepan, stir to dissolve cocoa, heat to blend the cocoa and water.
2. Add sugar, stir to dissolve.
3. Boil for 3 minutes.
4. Add salt and vanilla.
5. Pour into pint jar and keep refrigerated.
oh, delicious! i just bought some of that milk yesterday and i was thinking of making chocolate pudding with it. i'll have to do that now...thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeletefyi - found you via so_delicious on twitter. i'm veganginger there. :)
You're welcome, Ginger! Please let me know how your chocolate pudding comes out, and if you have a recipe you'd like to share. And I'll look you up on twitter.
ReplyDeleteTurtle Mountain's coconut milk beverages are incredible! And I've been wondering if they're going to start making a chocolate flavor. But this sounds so delicious, I'm going to start making my own chocolate milk. I like the fact that I can control the sweetness by tweaking the amount of sugar in this recipe, and use as much or as little chocolate syrup to make the milk as chocolatey as I want, too!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with your blog! Apart from writing, I love to cook =). I'm definitely coming back for some of your delicious recipes!
ReplyDeleteAwe, thank you, Ketki!
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me know about this alternative to dairy and soy milk. My daughter has PKU, and if it tastes as good as it looks, this will be perfect for her!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, we mixed Nestle's Quick or Hershey's syrup in our milk. That always tasted better than any chocolate milk that came pre-mixed in a carton. Now that I don't consume dairy, I've been using Ah-Laska chocolate syrup to make chocolate soy milk, because I think Silk tastes kind of chemically, so I don't buy it. But coconut milk and chocolate sounds amazing! I can't wait to try this (although I may still use Ah-Laska, as I'm too lazy to make my own chocolate syrup.)
ReplyDeleteHi Emily! I think your daughter is going to LOVE this! I feel just like a kid again when I'm drinking it. And Phillip, I can totally relate! The chocolate milk in those little cartons always tasted weird to me.
ReplyDeleteI've found I am allergic to soy so I stopped drinking the Silk soy chocolate milk. And now that I see this, I realize I can still have my chocolate 'milk'. I guess it's obvious but it never occurred to me.
ReplyDeleteI know of the So Delicious Coconut Milk and I love it. It is by far better than any of the other 'milk' beverages on the market. I enjoy drinking it on it's own but the chocolate milk option should be incredible. Thanks for the recipe and idea.
I LOVE these coconut milk beverages, and I can't wait to try this recipe! Thank you for posting it.
